Origins has a much longer and richer story. You also feel like your choices matter and there are many possible outcomes. The companions and NPCs are also very well written and you really feel involved in their stories. But, combat is kind of slow and tedious. The boss fights do require some strategy and they are fun. But the majority of the combat is repetitive mobs that are easy to kill.
DA2 did make a lot of improvements to combat. It's faster and more reactive. Some people didn't care for it, but I felt like it required a lot more attention and you had more strategic options than Origins. It plays much better than Origins on the console. There are also some very difficult boss fights. But, compared to Origins the story shorter, more shallow, and you have a lot less choice in the outcome.
I liked both games. I think if you had to pick one you should start with Origins. You can get the ultimate edition with all DLC at a good price right now. It will set the stage for the plot of DA2.How does Dragon Age: Origins compare to Dragon Age 2?
Dragon Age Origins: Pretty good - kinda like an MMORPG but without the grind, flawed as it may have been it was still good overall.
Dragon Age 2 - The combat feels like Gauntlet but in a Dragon Age setting, the main story rarely makes much sense, and there aren't as many skills as last time which diminishes the RPG experience somewhat. How does Dragon Age: Origins compare to Dragon Age 2?
