you could buy the first dragon age because everone else says you "have" to, but when i was like 12 i got half-life 2, never playing the original and still understood (kind of) what was going on, And listen the half-life games barely fill you in on anything, (no cutscene,ect) i didn't even play the original for year later, and didn't beat it till just a few months ago (never had steam, or internet) and i still loved them and understood everything.



look i know it has NOTHING to do with dragon age origins, just an example and point of one not playing the original to understand the plot.



Ps: if you are planning to buy Da 2, you don't have to play it, it is a custom character make your own decision game like oblivion, the sequal and expansion usually choos the outcome for you or use the TRUE ending to the game. if you are confusing origings witha prequal game or something, then you missunderstand, origins is the first game. so dr 1 and 2 are the only games, the rest should be dlc and expansion packs, potentionally confusing you. if you buy dr 2, wait till the price drops on origins, like a sub 20$ price tag, would be resonable for a couple years from now.

they say you can start on 2 without playing the first and be fine, but personally i would get dragon age 1. it is only about 25$ now, so it won't break your bank account. it will get you aquainted with the world and the lore and such (there's a lot of it)

from what i understand is the game takes place durning and after the events of dao

so if you did get it

then it would help you understand it better

but if you do not want to obtain the game then just watch the walkthrough vids on youtube cheaper and probaly saves you time
i think that #2 is a stand alone story but in the same world. Im not sure why you would want 2 and have never played origins. Origins is a great game and you may miss story a bit or you may miss out on the little kickbacks they always have in game sequels.Do i have to get dragon age origins to understand 2 cuz i rly wanna get it but not origins?
No, Bioware say you can jump in at DA2 without having played origins, but why not get origins? It's dead cheap to get Ultimate Edition with all DLC and is brilliant.
yea i would, its not entirely necesary but you may miss out on some story
